Last week was for The Squid Game , but in recent days, a new series has captivated audiences who consume Netflix . It's a completely different show and it's also based on real events. It's about Things to Clean Up , a miniseries starring Margaret Qualley and her mother Andie Macdowell , known for her roles in Groundhog Day and 4 Weddings and a Funeral , Just to name a few.
Coincidentally, the two here play mother and daughter in a complex but at the same time hopeful story, which revolves around the life of a young mother who struggles to escape the mistreatment of her partner and seeks a future for her daughter and herself. Although the character in the series is called Alex Rusell, the production draws inspiration from Stephanie Land's memoir calls Housekeeper, hard work, low pay, and a mother's will to survive.
Things to Clean Up He tells through only 10 episodes of 50 minutes how Alex must manage to make ends meet and fight homelessness, at the same time he must feed his daughter and permanently escape the physical and psychological abuse of his ex-little one friend. As we have seen, on other occasions it is the story of a woman who has to face everything and, despite the difficulties that will be presented to her, she will never crack. The interesting thing about this show is that it looks dramatic, yes, but with a bit of humor and irony.
Stephanie Land is the real protagonist of this story. The American author is currently 43 years old and, in addition to publishing her book, she has also written in The Huffington Post . But, of course, its path has not been easy at all and that is how it is told in the Netflix series.
The story of Stephanie Land, author of Things to Clean
Stéphanie was born in September 1978 in the United States and lived in different places during her childhood such as Washington and Alaska. At the age of 16, he had a serious car accident that caused post-traumatic stress that would later have consequences. A few years later, she had her daughter and started working as a housekeeper. During this time, the young Stephianie lived almost in absolute poverty since she hardly had to meet the essential needs of the young girl and her family.
And as if that were not enough, the socio-political context of the country did not collaborate. Under these conditions, they lived for at least about seven years. However, somehow, with a lot of effort, he managed to get a scholarship and start studying at the university. The young woman had always wanted to study writing and she did. He enrolled in the University of Montana in Creative Writing, and everything started to change there.
Thanks to his talent as a writer, he quickly started writing for different websites and newspapers. This is what allowed her to make a name for herself as a freelance writer, to stop working as a janitor and, little by little, also in social assistance programs.
But this whole part of his life that he had to deal with also served him to later write articles on poverty in the United States and even his own memoirs, which today are the starting point of the series that is trending right now on Netflix. Housekeeper: Hard Work, Low Pay, and a Mother's Will for Survival was released in 2019 and quickly became a bestseller, so much so that even former US President Barack Obama included it in his list of essential books in the same year.
In addition to being a writer, Land also teaches. Currently she is married to a man named Tim Faud and they live with their children in Montana. About the series premiere on Netflix, she proudly mentioned it several times on her social networks, where she is also very active and has more than 15,000 followers.
