Hoefdraad was shot in the head before 6 a.m. on Sunday at a party in a building on the Stekkenbergweg, on the Amstel III-Bullewijk business park, not far from the AMC. According to the police, he had tried to end an argument by 'jumping in'.
Images circulating on social media reportedly showed two explosions. Other footage would show a friend begging to call 911, holding Hoofwire's head and calling out his name. He was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
Belgium
The 34-year-old suspect was arrested on Monday evening by Belgian police officers in Bocholt, near the border with the Netherlands. His family is said to live in the Antwerp Kempen. Pending his surrender to the Amsterdam public prosecutor's office, the man is detained in Belgium.
Police said they knew who the suspect was and called on him to come forward. Through witness statements and a clear description, according to the police, the visor went "to a suspect in the direction of Belgium". The man was arrested with the help of the Belgian police and the judiciary.
Earlier, the police reported Hoefdraad's death, but that turned out to be a mistake. Police corrected the message and apologized to the man's family.
Long career
Hoefdraad had a long career in professional football as an attacker. After he was trained in the youth of Ajax and RKC Waalwijk, he played in the first division and the Eredivisie at RKC Waalwijk, FC Omniworld, Almere City, Telstar and SC Cambuur. He played no fewer than three seasons for Almere City, in total 154 games.
He had stopped as a professional, but next season would play with friends at the amateurs of De Volewijckers, in Amsterdam-Noord.
