Jennifer Coolidge explains what it's like to do sex scenes during a pandemic

Jennifer Coolidge discussed her experience filming sex scenes during the Covid-19 pandemic as she spoke about her new drama The White Lotus. You can watch the trailer here:

The 59-year-old American Pie actress was speaking about her new role in the HBO drama, which will be available on Sky Atlantic starting August 16.

Speaking to The Guardian about the sex scenes she filmed, she said: “It's weird during a pandemic, for sure. 'Gee, I'm dating someone. I hope I don't die afterwards. '

“I'm just glad Tanya [McQuoid, her character in The White Lotus ] found someone, for god's sake. It would have been a tragic journey if she hadn't. Lots of other people were getting it, why not her? "

Discussing her performance, which was hailed as one of her best, she said: “Did I feel like I was successful at any level? No. Playing is so weird. You can never tell when you're in the middle of it.

“What helped me was that my character, Tanya [a wealthy woman grieving her mother], had parallels with me personally.

“I had been incredibly depressed during the pandemic. I lost my own mother at an early age. A family member died during Covid and we were unable to organize a real memorial. So I had it all to myself. "

Despite the positive reviews, Coolidge admits she was reluctant to take on the role because she wasn't thinking about work. Why? Because she didn't think we would get out of the coronavirus pandemic.

She said: “I have been really affected by the pandemic. It was an incredibly sad time. I read tragic news stories daily, took a fatalistic approach and assumed the virus was going to win. I knew people who lost their lives and was convinced that we would not make it.

“But then [ White Lotus creator] Mike White called. His show about the rich on vacation was picked up by HBO and he wrote a part with me in mind.

“I said, 'OK, when do we do this? He said, "What do you mean? We just got the green light. We are doing it now. You have to fly to Hawaii.

“It was an impossibility in my mind. I had been drunk and self-destructing at home for months, eating pizza all day. There was no way I wanted to be on the movie unless they shot me in the neck. I'm sort of vain so there was no fucking way. "

Glad to know that someone else went through lockdown the same way we did.

She continued, “Mike texted me at 2am one night and he just said, 'Are you scared?' It was as if he could read my mind and felt I was trying to get out of it. Then a great friend of mine told me to take my mess and do it.

"I can't tell you how nearly ruined it all for myself." It's such a beautiful lesson in life. I would never have forgiven myself. I would have sat down to look at The White Lotus and said, “What the hell was I thinking? I am a crazy person.

“A lot of us actors are so insecure and afraid of failure that we miss our own chances. "

Federal Reserve lent $300 billion in emergency funds to banks in the past week

WASHINGTON (AP) — Cash-short banks have borrowed about $300 billion from the Federal Reserve in the past week, the central bank announced Thursday. Nearly half the money — $143 billion — went to holding companies for two major banks that failed over the past week, Silicon Valley Bank and Signature Bank, triggering widespread alarm in financial markets. The Fed did not identify the banks that received the other half of the funding or say how many of them did so. The holding companies for the two failed banks were set up by the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation, which has taken over both banks. The money they borrowed was used to pay their uninsured depositors, with bonds owned by both banks posted as collateral. The FDIC has guaranteed the repayment of the loans, the Fed said. The figures provide a first glimpse of the scale of the Fed’s assistance to the financial sector after the two banks collapsed this past weekend. ...
