The Green Knight is one of the top-rated films of the year, however, it hasn't quite seen as much box office success. There could be a number of reasons for this: It's not a big blockbuster movie and with the increase in COVID-19 cases, people are still hesitant to return to the box office. In the UK, The Green Knight's release has been pulled from the schedule due to the increase in cases and there has still been no announcement of when this film will be released in theaters. So far, The Green Knight has made € 12. 6 million at the global box office.
The film stars Dev Patel, Alicia Vikander, Joel Edgerton, Barry Koeghan and Ralph Ineson. It is based on a classic Arthurian tale, Sir Gauvain and the Green Knight , written by Gauvain Poète in the 14th century. The official synopsis on the A24 reads:
An epic fantasy adventure based on the timeless Arthurian legend, The Green Knight tells the story of Sir Gawain (Patel), the reckless and headstrong nephew of King Arthur, who embarks on a daring quest to confront the eponymous Green Knight, a gigantic emerald-skinned stranger and tester of men. Gauvain takes on ghosts, giants, thieves and schemers in what becomes a deeper journey to define his character and prove his worth in the eyes of his family and his kingdom by taking on the ultimate challenger. Visionary filmmaker David Lowery offers a fresh and daring take on a classic tale of the Knights of the Round Table. "
The beautiful cinematography in The Green Knight lends itself more to the big screen, but in these times, watching the movie at home may be the best option for some. Visit the A24 website now if you want to purchase tickets for this one night only event.
