Venom: Let There Be Carnage hasn't even hit theaters yet, but star Tom Hardy already has ideas in mind for the inevitable Venom 3 . Back in 2018, the original Venom was a smash hit at the box office with over $ 856 million. There's been a long wait for the second film, and after delays related to the pandemic, Venom: Let There Be Carnage will finally hit the big screen next month.
The first Venom , directed by Ruben Fleischer, was written by Jeff Pinkner, Scott Rosenberg and Kelly Marcel. For the sequel, Marcel served as screenwriter although she collaborated with Hardy on the story. Marcel once explained how she and Hardy spent months developing ideas for There to be Carnage before the scriptwriting process began. If a third movie happens, as it likely will, it looks like Hardy will be contributing to the story again.
In a new interview with Esquire, Hardy touched on the potential future of the Venom series following the release of Let There Be Carnage. He admits he's already “thinking” about Venom 3 , suggesting he must have some ideas in mind when crafting Venom 2 with Marcel. He also says production can't officially begin until Sony has seen some success for Venom: that there is some box office carnage , but given the enthusiasm of fans for the sequel, it does. seems more likely than not. Maintenance:
“I'm also thinking about the third film, because I think you have to write it at the same time… A third will not be lit until the second has succeeded, but the studio was really very happy with number two. "
As Sony waits for the results before giving the go-ahead for Venom 3 , the paperwork is already in order for Hardy to potentially return as Eddie Brock in a third film. In 2018, the actor revealed in an interview with Total Film Magazine that he had signed on to play the character for an entire trilogy. Back then, that was before Venom was released, Hardy also suggested that the future of the series depends on fan reactions.
“I'm open to whatever you want to do with it,” Hardy reportedly said. “We signed for three of them. It is therefore an open file. We'll see what people's reactions are. I think he's a great character. I love to play both. It's an appetizer, and for Sony it's the Venom- Reverse launched in isolation, so to speak. "
Andy Serkis directs Venom: Let There Be Carnage . Starring Tom Hardy , the sequel also features Woody Harrelson as Cletus Kasady, the serial killer who becomes the host of the alien symbiote Carnage. Also on the bill are Michelle Williams, Naomie Harris, Reid Scott and Stephen Graham. Avi Arad, Matt Tolmach, Amy Pascal and Hutch Parker have produced with Hardy and Marcel.
Venom: Let There Be Carnage is set to hit theaters in the US on September 24, 2021, following a UK release on September 15. The film was originally slated to hit theaters in October 2020 before the pandemic altered those plans. Let's just hope it's worth the wait, but the trailer images certainly look promising.
